I always feel like the things a woman keeps in her handbag says a lot about her personality. It’s filled with things that person specifically feels they can’t leave the house without. I love looking inside people’s handbags and I’ve even done a ‘What’s in my bag?’ video which you can watch here. But today I thought I’d talk about what it is that I consider to be my handbag essentials.
Headphones
I always try to be sure I have headphones in my bag. You never know when you’re going to be stuck somewhere alone or have to wait for a late friend and music is your only salvation.
Handcream
Thankfully, I’ve never been one to suffer from particularly dry hands but if I had a penny for every time someone’s asked for hand cream, I’d be a millionaire (or at least have enough money to buy a large chicken legend meal at Maccy D’s)
Business Cards
Being a Freelance Makeup Artist, I work for myself, which means any promotion for my business has to be done by me. Keeping a decent supply of business cards in my bag means anyone that I meet or any notice boards I find, I always have something to promote my business.
Lip Balm
My lips have tendency of drying out like crazy and with the mixture of the Welsh weather and my love of matte lipsticks, I’m in constant need of some major moisture. As a result a lip balm has a permanent home in my bag. At the moment, I’m loving Nature’s Ingredients Lemon Verbena lip balm. The same make and scent as the Body Butter I talked about in my January Favourites.
MAC Studio Fix Powder
I’m not a lover of carrying a lot of makeup in my handbag but since I’m an oily mess and my makeup simply disappears through the day, I like to kee my MAC Studio Fix Powder in my bag to fix any makeup mishaps throughout the day.
Nail Polish Remover
If you read my New Years Beauty Commandments, you’ll know I’m always rocking the chipped nail polish look and as a result made it a New Years Resolution to keep nail polish remover in my handbag to try and keep my nails looking at least half respectable.
Planner
As I previously mentioned I run my own business as a Makeup Artist, which means clients can call or email any time of the day to book an appointment. Keeping my planner on hand at all times is a massive essential to ensure I can book clients in or check if I have space available. I love using the Erin Condren Life Planner to keep everything on track.
Notebook
Keeping a notebook on hand is super important for those moments blog post inspo strikes. It’s surprising how helpful this is especially long car journeys or solo coffee shop escapades.
Camera
Similarly with the Notebook, keeping a camera on hand is a major life saver for blogging. Sometimes a whole blog post can come from one picture or maybe it might just make a decent Instagram picture. I love the Canon G7X for when I’m out and about as it’s so compact.

Hello Gemma! I was drawn to your post because we have the same type of camera; mine’s a G16, I have olive oil skin ointment and a hand lotion with chlorophyll, Dermablend concealer and a handkerchiefs from Vivienne Westwood or Sybilla. Best wishes.
I love having a look at what people consider their essentials! I keep a lot of the same things as you in my handbag but the nail polish remover is such a smart idea! Great post! XO -Kim
