Being both a Blogger and Makeup Artist, creativity is something that’s so vital in my everyday life. Coming up with new ideas, trying new things and pushing myself to do something different and amazing all comes from being creative. While I’ve always been a creative type, there’s always times when that well eventually runs dry. And when it’s dry, my posts lack any spark and the makeup I produce is lacking anything special. This means I have to actively work at becoming more creative. So, I thought I’d share with you some of my favourite ways to boost my creativity.
Grab a coffee
When it comes to blogging, one of my favourite things to do is pack up my laptop, notebook and planner and head to a local coffee shop. Not only does this get my out of my regular mundane atmosphere and gives me a much-needed caffeine boost but the ambient noise of a coffee shop actually stimulates creativity. No really, it’s proven by those crazy smart science people.
Pinterest
Okay, I know this is a pretty obvious one, but if you’re ever in need of an amazing creativity burst, Pinterest is your best friend. Find images that you love, recipes that make your mouth water, outfits you’d love to pull off or home decor that makes your heart swoon. Get your imagination flowing and creative thinking will soon follow in suit.
Go for a walk in nature
Well, those crazy smart science people are at it again and they’ve found that nature leads to a 50% increase in creativity and problem-solving abilities. Say WHAT?!? That’s huge! If you work primarily from home, or in a job that requires you to stay inside the whole time, then you may want to make the effort to take time every day to get outside and walk. Whether you walk to the dog daily, walk the kids to school or simply walk to the shop to buy milk and bread, your health with thank you for it too!
Daydream
Daydreaming may seem like the last thing you should do to be more creative at your job, but actually, it can help a lot. Once you’ve started a task, feel free to let yourself drift away into a daydream for a few minutes. Letting our mind wander allows our brain to take a more creative approach to problems.
Meditate
I know, I’ve spoken so much about meditation on my blog, you’re all probably sick to death of it. But serious, meditation is an amazing thing! Taking 10 minutes a day can help calm your mind and generate new ideas. No idea where to begin with meditation? I’ve got you covered! Read my Beginner Guide To Meditation here.
Brain dump
I love notebooks and I love brain dumps. The amount of notebooks I have filled with scribbles is ridiculous but in amongst the scribbles and pointless writing are some pretty great ideas. ‘Free-writing’ is an amazing technique that involves sitting down for 10 minutes and writing down everything and anything that comes to mind without thinking too much about it. You could have a page filled with nonsense but you could also have some creative gems!
Laugh with friends
Ever heard the saying ‘laughter is the best medicine’. Well, it’s definitely true when it comes to creativity. Laughter actives the parts of the brain associated with complex cognition, decision-making, and emotion. Now, laughing with friends is like a double whammy because having deep conversations with people you trust allows you to talk openly and honestly about your passions.
