Within my family, Father’s day cards or any greeting cards for that matter are always comedic ones. However, when I was searching through endless cards on a recent shopping trip, they were all either sloppy and slushy or the jokes were really predicatable. After extreme frustration I decided to just make one myself. I know this is pretty different to the type of posts I usually do but I thought I’d share it all the same so here’s what I did!
You’ll need:
– 6″X6″ craft card
– Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Antique Linen, Peacock Fathers, Dusty Concord and Spiced Marmalade.
– Die Cutting Machine
– Tim Holtz Alteration Diamond Shape Die from Sizzix
– Heat Resistant Craft Mat
– Tim Holtz Distress Spray Stain in Antiqued Bronze
– Motorbike Stamp from Clarity Stamp
– Jet Black Archival Ink from Ranger
– Met Arts Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel in Clear
– Heat Gun
– Tim Holtz idea-ology Small Talk Book
– 1mm Foam Pads
– Tim Holtz Alterations Boardwalk Letters Die
– Glue
1. Make a card out of 6″X6″ craft card (or buy a pre-made one).
2. Choose a piece of paper and cut slightly smaller than your card.
3. Ink the edges of the card with Tim Holtz Distress Ink in ‘Antique Linen’ (or any ink that matches your paper) using an ink blending tool.
4. Using a die-cutting machine (I used the Kirstie Allsopp CuttleBug), I cut out the diamond shapes in the corner of the card. I used a Tim Holtz Alteration Die from Sizzix to do this.
5. Using Tim Holtz Distressing Ink in Peacock Feathers, Dusty Concord and Spiced Marmalade colour the base card underneath the die-cut area so the colours just show through.
6. Using a Heat Resistant Craft mat, lay the card flat and tape a spare piece of paper to cover up the back half of the base card. Using the Tim Holtz Distress Spray Stain in ‘Antiqued Bronze’, hold approx. 45cm away and spray over base card. Put to one side to dry.
7. Taking some ink and your stamp of choice, place stamp image in desired place. I used the motorbike stamp from Clarity Stamp as it looks a lot like my Dad’s Harley-Davidson and Jet Black Archival Ink from Ranger. Then immediately cover stamped image with plenty of embossing powder over the top. The ink still needs to still be wet for the embossing powder to stick to it. Make sure to put a piece of paper undercard to funnel the excess back into the pot.
8. Heat with a heat gun for a few seconds until embossing powder melts. Make sure you do this over a heat resistant mat.
9. After embossing, it’s time to decide what sentiment you want on the front of the card. I took one from the Tim Holtz Idea-ology Small Talk book. These come in strips, so I cut each word out to arrange as I wanted.
10. To help make the distressing on the basecard stand out, I used 1mm foam pads on the top card so it’s raised from the base card.
11. To finish the card off, I cut out letters from the Tim Holtz Alterations Boardwalk letters die with a using blue paper from the Tim Holtz paper pad and stuck ‘Happy Fathers Day’ inside.
And that’s it! This was a bit of a play around for me but I’m so happy with how it turned out. Now fingers crossed my Dad doesn’t check my blog before Sunday! Hope you all enjoyed!
